One rainy day last November, Yuna was rescued from the street after being run over. She was left in the middle of the road, with multiple traumas; to her head, hip and more. Without a doubt, she would have died, if it had not been for a passing boy who picked her up and took her home. She endured the weekend without any treatment, until the Monday when he contacted our association. We asked him to take her to the clinic La Marina, so we may treat her.
The poor girl was hospitalised for several days until she stopped urinating blood and slowly she started to recovered from most of her injuries. Yuna is a survivor!
But unfortunately, the accident caused a very strong injury on her right front paw, causing nerve damage at a level that was beyond repair. As a consequence, she had a problem to extend her paw and could not move it properly. It seemed to not be painful for her and would not prevent her from living a normal cat's life, for example, in an apartment.
As Yuna recovered enough to be rehomed, she used her affectionate and playful character to win over her new family. They have provided her with a safe and loving environment to grow up in, along with our support at Aldea Felina, controlling the development of her leg.
The next weeks were an important time in her development and we had our fingers crossed, that Yuna would recover and her paw would not give her problems.
Unfortunately, in March of this year, her paw deteriorated and an important decision had to be made. We needed to operate. For her treatment, we counted as always, on the experience of the traumatologists at the Clínica Aliaga, in Teulada.
Together we decided to try to fix the wrist joint, in order to save Yuna from suffering a total amputation of the paw.
The surgery was performed on Tuesday 5th April and so far everything seems to be going well. Yuna is now back at home and as you can see in the video, she is recovering well and still wants to play and make the most of her life.
Raised for her
The cost of this operation was quite high, totalling 770 euros. Other costs we have to cover are the pre and post-op medicines and her check-ups, until she has fully recovered. The estimated total cost for Yuna is 950 euros.
